Flying fish, a member of the Exocoetidae, lives in the warm tropical and subtropical waters. The most outstanding and striking feature of the unique fish is the pectoral fin which enables this kind of fish to jump and take short gliding flights 50 meters above the water's surface.

Flying fish often swims in schools. Measured about 7 to 12 inches in average length, flying fish is divided into two kinds: the four-wing flying fish and the two-wing flying fish. The first has both large pectoral and pelvic fins while the latter has enlarged pectoral fins only. The aerodynamic shape curved wing can be comparable to that of a bird wing.
