Bacteria from the United Kingdom survived 1.5 years on the outside of the International Space Station!


Scientists want to determine how the bacteria did this to develop future life-support systems. For example, these bacteria could be used for bio-mining to extract specific minerals from rocks. The bacteria, still on their chunks of rock, would have been exposed to cosmic rays, ultraviolet light and dramatic shifts in temperature.
